Is shunning unscriptual?
by MrTheocratic ininternational version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.
do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.
.how does one explain this scripture?.

"anyone who claims to be a brother or sister" - this is not talking about someone formerly baptized who decides they want nothing to do with the religion
this is about someone who "claims" to be an active, practicing witness so that they can carry on these practices within the congregation

What strange things are taught at MTS?
by Londo111 ina few years before i woke up, a young man in my congregation went to ministerial training school.
he began to speak about some of the things he had learned.
one of the things mentioned was that of incubus or succubus, that is to say, sex demons.

A demon did take the form of C.T. Russell and have relations with the unbelieving wife of an Australian brother:
Brother Nicholson, of the Australian branch, writes us of an astounding circumstance. One of the Australian Brethren has a wife who is neither for nor against the truth, and who professes no sympathy for Spiritism. Quite recently the brother, returning to his home, had a harrowing tale related by his wife. She declared that Brother Russell had appeared to her. (Possibly she had seen his photograph.) She declared that he made improper proposals, to which she yielded.
At such a distance it is easy enough to prove an alibi - to prove that the Editor was not there. But suppose the materialization in all of its particulars had transpired in Brooklyn, or in the Bethel home, or in any of the various cities which the Editor visits in the preaching of the gospel, or in a Pullman sleeping ear, in which he frequently travels - it is easily seen that such an alibi might be very difficult to prove in such cases. And what would be true in this respect of the Editor might be true in some respects of many of the pilgrim brethren: yea, true of all of the Lord's people everywhere.

I went to my girlfriend church service last night
by joe134cd ini went to my girlfriends church service last night.
basically it's a pentecostal type church that was started about 2 years ago.
for a church that had started just recently, there must of been a congregation of about 20 members.

Interestingly, pentacostalism started after Russell's international BS movement, I think 1906? Now there are 220 million followers, Why the fast growth?
Pentecostalism appeals to people who already believe in spirits, snd in some countries where animism is a thing, it does a good job of blending it with christianity. Get a charismatic pastor who can whip up emotions in people, and it will be interpreted as a "spiritual experience."
It appeals to people's pride, because they convince people that they have a specific gift that others outside the faith don't have: "hey, you've been given a gift by the holy spirit! You have to use that gift for the Lord!" (This is similar to jw's "God sees special something in you and that's why he's chosen to reveal truth to you while the world remains ignorant!")
Fun fact: Originally Pentecostals who had the "gift of tongues" were sent out to foreign lands to preach in native languages. Unfortunately they found out that no one on earth understood what they were saying and that they would have to study the languages like everyone else. Thereafter they began to believe they were speaking in "tongues of angels."

"The Bunker" WT Conventions 2016 (Gag Me)
by Poztate inin the very near future the gang will be down in a bunker, cellar awaiting the police, military to break in and take them away to camps or executions .
(paranoid much) this is the foretold "prophecy" of the governments turning on religion and saving them for last.since the couple portrayed as simplifying their life by getting rid of a lot of material things is shown to be (about) the same age in the bunker we know it must be any minute now that it will happen.
i have been out for over 35 years and things seem to be getting more bizarre each year.. when did this doctrine really become main stream?

Exjwlemming,
A theory about the purpose of disaster preparedness kits or "go bags":
1. If the rank & file have them, the org saves a lot of money if there is a disaster (don't have to feed people who already have food, but they still see an increase in donations!!!)
2. If the r&f get messages every once in while that they should make sure they have one, they think the "slave" has been given some divine insight that the Great Tribulation is near and it keeps them obedient.
EDIT: As Barrold Bonds posted, it is practical to have a "go bag". If you live in area that floods or is earthquake prone, you should have one.
However, is it scriptural? Were the Christians fleeing to the mountains told to have "go bags" ready? They were actually told to 'not take anything out of the house!'

LaFrancia, can you or anyone you know in Italy confirm a story told to me by a branch committee member in Europe?
He said a former branch committee member in Italy grabbed a whole lot of the branch's money and ran off with a young special pioneer sister. Have you heard anything about this?

Has anyone been outed by jw health care workers?
by purrpurr incarrying on from audespare thread.
i was wondering how common it is for a sinner/apostate to be outed by a babbling jw care worker?
say you went to your dr because you were pregnant and unmarried or wanting counseling for having to live a double life as a pretend jw... and a jw secretary at the drs office saw this on your file and went tattling to the elders?.

September 1st 1987 Watchtower:
Hence, before a Christian takes an oath or puts himself under a confidentiality restriction, whether in connection with employment or otherwise, it would be wise to determine to the extent possible what problems this may produce because of any conflict with Bible requirements. How will one handle matters if a brother or a sister becomes a client? Usually such jobs as working with doctors, hospitals, courts, and lawyers are the type of employment in which a problem could develop. We cannot ignore Caesar’s law or the seriousness of an oath, but Jehovah’s law is supreme.
